Software Development as Content Creation

A lot of software development will soon fall under the content creation domain.

Imagine this: someone posts a video saying, “Why can’t XYZ thing work on Mac?” The video goes viral. Genuine feedback and demand flood the comments.

The next day, someone else responds with, “I made an app that solves it.” That video goes viral too. People pay a small amount and get their problem solved.

This kind of micro-use-case-specific app development will give rise to several new businesses that understand software and content creation equally well.

It wouldn’t be surprising if a new form of social media (or content stream) emerges, built purely around app discovery for niche needs. We’re already seeing product discovery led by content creators, especially on YouTube. That influence is only going to grow. Social media will become the ultimate funnel and launchpad for apps.

Of course, some of this is already happening. The App Store and Play Store are full of apps tailored to specific needs, many of which are promoted via social-first content strategies.

But with even lower barriers to entry and faster development cycles, building an app will soon feel like producing a polished, studio-grade YouTube video. Creators will build apps for the people who vibe with them, who think like them, and who need the same things they do.

Exciting future ahead!
